!b! It's important to practise this technique under trained supervision. There's no substitute for practical knowledge & experience. !n! This section sets out to describe recovery position. However, before using this procedure, you must learn & practise the technique under qualified supervision.
It is also important to understand when to use the {recovery position} as some medical conditions (e.g. spine injury) may be complicated by moving the patient.
Check {airway}, mouth & nose. Remove debris in mouth (e.g. vomited food particles). Gently rotate patient's head towards you keeping jaw forward but tilting head backwards.
#recovery position2
/animated 3 f/s run once, 5 sec delay
With patient on their back, place arm nearest you along nearside leg with fingers extended. Holding farther leg behind knee, gently flex & draw across near leg.
#recovery position3
/animated 3 f/s run once, 5 sec delay
Draw farther arm across chest. Hold patient by hips & roll body towards you, carefully protecting head & making sure {airway} is clear.
#recovery position4
Bend upper arm to a right angle thus acting as a stay to upper body. Bend upper knee to a right angle, this also acts as stay for lower body. Gently pull arm under patient from below trunk leaving it parallel to them.
#recovery position5
Check patient is unable to roll & that only half the chest is in contact with floor. Ensure jaw is well forward so {airway} remains clear. Stay with patient until medical assistance arrives.
